1. It's a couple thing. Even my students, who are in elementary school, want to have a girlfriend/boyfriend to go on dates with during the holidays. We made wreaths and the students had to write down what they want to eat, what kind of gifts they want and what they want to do on Christmas day. There were multiple leaves that said "Go on a date" or " I want a girlfriend/boyfriend". Sigh.
2. If you do not have a significant other to spend the holidays with, then you would spend it with your friends. It's not really a holiday meant for families. We were out on Christmas day for retail therapy and all the malls were packed with people. It was suffocating.
3. Home Alone 1 and 2 are the only Christmas movies that the students and the Korean teachers know about. I had the students watch the 1966 cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, because that is the only version anyone should watch for the holidays. The students were too distracted by how the Grinch looked, they didn't even pay attention to the plot of the movie. They called him fat and they didn't notice that his heart grew three times it size at the end of the movie.
Christmas eve was spent eating pizza, mac and cheese and washing it down with some wine to stay classy. Did a gift exchange and watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It was a pleasant night.
Good day.
